On 30 December 2015, the government of Ecuador issuedResolution 050/2015. With this Resolution, Ecuador eliminated the assignment of import quotas per distributor (see related measure). The government instead established a global quota for imports of vehicles for the fiscal year 2016 which amounted to USD 656 million.
Therefore, indicating that the vehicle market in Ecuador is not only going to be open to the specific distributors which the government has assigned a specific import quota to. But rather, to all other foreign players who would display interest to entering in the Ecuadorian vehicle market.
The objective of this measure is to facilitate the entrance of new participants in the vehicle-related import and commerce scene in Ecuador. The global assignment is equally divided in 4 quarters.
