Import quota

On 27 April 2016 the Government of the Republic of Moldova introduced import quotas with respect to imports of meat, dairy products and cement from Ukraine.
The import quotas for Ukrainian goods are as follows:

  • Milk and cream - 1000 tons,
  • Dairy products - kefir, yogurt, sour cream - 1000 tons,
  • Butter, ice cream, cheese and curd - 750 tons,
  • Meat products - sausages and canned meat quota -- 250 tons
  • Cement - 500 tons.

The quotas are granted on the basis of the principle 'first come, first served' and are planned to remain in force until 31 December 2016.
The government motivated the introduction of the quotas with requests made by domestic producers earlier this year. They argued that they run the risk of going bankrupt because they are unable to compete with the similar Ukrainian products.
