Financial grant

The Government of Alberta announced on March 10, 2016 that it has earmarked $10 million in revenue from the tax on greenhouse gases for a subsidy to Edmonton-based SBI BioEnergy. The firm is building a $20 million facility for a technology that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by creating a renewable fuel that can substitute for diesel. The subsidy is under the jurisdiction of the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation. SBI aims to produce 10 million litres of renewable diesel fuel annually, and the project will generate 35 jobs in the Edmonton region.
