According to numerous consisten press reports, the government of the United Arab Emirates has restricted the termination of private-sector work contracts with citizens of the U.A.E..
 
Private employers may thus only terminate contracts with local citizens in cases of serious misconduct and have to file an application for this dismissal with the Ministry of Labor in advance.
 
Targeted more directly at non-Emiratis, according to the official news agency WAN, the decree 'considers ending the service of the national as 'illegal'... if it were proven that a company is keeping a non-national doing the same job'.
