Export licensing requirement

On 22 December 2010, the Indian Ministry of Commerce & Industry issued Notification No. 14(RE-2010)/2009-14 imposing restrictions on the export of certain cotton yarn. This requirement is effective from 1 December 2010.

Earlier, export of cotton yarn was allowed by any exporter provided the export contract was registered with the Trade Commissioner. With this notification, the export policy of cotton yarn has been changed from "Free" to "Restricted" with the requirement of obtaining a license to export such yarn.

The license requirement was partially lifted for exporters who manufacture & export cotton yarn from imported raw cotton on 24 January 2011 and was later completely lifted on 31 March 2011 (See related State Act).
