ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
Internal taxation of imports
On 3 August 2010, the members of Mercosur agreed to the elimination of double taxation for imports and the adoption of a single customs code, accompanied by the introduction of a common customs document entitled "Documento Único Aduanero del Mercosur" (DUAM).
Starting 1 January 2012, goods imported into one Mercosur member and then shipped to another Mercosur member shall no longer be subject to double taxation. This measure concerns finished as well as intermediate goods processed in the former member.
Also, to be negotiated over the next six months, the Mercosur countries agreed to implement a common Mercosur customs code. The code shall replace national regulation and has the potential to share revenues among the member states.
