On 25 February 2010 the Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Maxwell Motowane, told government officials that they should buy locally produced goods so long as they met established standards. This represents an official endorsement not to buy foreign produced products. Subsequent announcements by the same ministry indicate that steps have been subsequently taken to check that government agencies are complying with this instruction.
