ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
Labour market access
On 15 December 2008, the Swedish government put a law into force that makes it easier for non-EU/EEA citizens to access the Swedish labour market.
Under the new regulation, the Swedish Public Employment Agency is no longer required to examine each appication for whether the need for labour can be met through recruitment in Sweden or the EU/EEA. Rather, the assessment of such possibilities is now in general left to the potential employer.
Furthermore, the new law facilitates visa issuance for the purpose of job interviews. In case the job interview was successful, the application no longer needs to leave Sweden temporarily to apply for a work and residence permit.
Employment permits issued under the new regulation are valid for up to 2 years, and may be extended thereafter. If the foreign national has worked for a total of 4 years in Sweden, he may apply for permanent residency.
