On 25 March 2010, the Government of the Republic of Panama announced that it nationalized two toll-road concessions that were awarded to two Mexican entities in the period of the 1990s. The reasons for the nationalization, according to official sources, were the findings of an audit, which showed that these Mexican entities were tied to complaints over pricing and reliability. The Government of the Republic of Panama, also announced its decision topay a total of US $700 million to these two Mexican companies. Furthermore, it was also announcedthat a new Government agency, the Empresa Nacional de Autopistas, will be set up to administer the toll roads.
