Trade finance

On October 14, 2015, a 26.942 billion yen ($225 million USD) loan agreement was signed with the Independent State of Papua New Guinea and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the maintaining of Nadzab Airport. This loan will be part of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency's STEP program which implies that the loan will go towards providing Japanese technologies such as LED lighting, energy-saving air conditioning, and eco-friendly water systems for the project. The ODA loan will also go towards public works, construction of a new passenger terminal building, consulting services, improvements to the runway and taxiway, and to the procurement of equipment.

Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP)
A stipulation in JICA ODA loan agreements is the utilization of advanced Japanese technologies and the employment of Japanese firms in overseas projects.
