While the import of peas was banned, an import quota of 100,000 tonnes has been allowed from 1 April to 30 June 2018. This quota announced on 25 April 2018, includes quantity already imported from 1 April 2018 to the date of this announcement.
The quantity already imported not only consists of shipment already received between 1 April and 25 April but also shipments backed by Irrevocable Commercial Letter of Credit (ICLC) and Advance Payments made through Banking Channels before 25 April 2018.
On 5 July 2018, through Trade Notice 19/2018-19 the Ministry allowed imports of peas against part advance payments as well. The imports allowed would be proportional to the part payment made before 25 April 2018 only.
On 17 August 2018, through Trade Notice 25/20180-19, a further relaxation was made for small importers. The Ministry allowed such importers to import a minimum of 125 metric tonnes of peas per contract, or less for smaller contracts, irrespective of any advance payment made before 25 April 2018.
