ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On June 15th, 2018, the Chinese government announced a further round of tariffs that would be levied on goods from the United States.
The new 25% tariff is supplementary to any existing tariffs imposed on the affected goods.
For 545 tariff lines, including some agricultural goods, automobiles and aquatic products, the tariff was imposed from July 6th onwards. A second list of goods was also announced, but with no implementation date.
The move comes as a response to recent US tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, which, according to this annoucement, constitute a 'serious violation of [China's] legal rights; threatening the wellbeing of both the nation and its people.'
