ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 31 May 2018, the Mexican Secretariat of Economy published an official statement announcing counter-balancing measures to the import tariff set on aluminum and steel by the USA.
As a result of the American actions, Mexico will increase the import duties on flat steel products, lamps, pork legs and arms, cold meats and other meal preparations, apples, grapes, blueberries and several kinds of cheese among others.
The Mexican government stated that this import tariff increase will be in force until the USA eliminates the newly established import duties.
Notably, a number of other countries also imposed retaliation measures in the form of duties in reaction to the imposition of steel and aluminium duties by the United States, see related state acts.
