FDI: Financial incentive

On 4 May 2018, a joint statement of the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for the Arts and the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment announced the creation of an AUD 140 million (USD 105 million) Location Incentive Fund to attract more international movie productions.

The new funding measure complements the existing  ‘Location Offset’ component of the Australian Screen Production Incentive tax rebate. In this sense, the new budget will effectively increase from 16% to 30% the tax rebate provided to large-budget international productions.

The announcement stated that the measure will enter into force on 1 July 2018 and will be delivered over four years.
