On 22 March 2018, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the regional Government of Victoria announced the allocation of AUD 50 million (circa USD 38.5 million) to the private consortia made by Edify Energy and Spotless Sustainability Services. The resources will be distributed equally by the Victorian Government and ARENA.

The purpose of this funding is to fund the first two large-scale, grid-connected batteries of the state of Victoria. The two batteries will be provided by Tesla and will be located at the Ballarat terminal station and the Gannawarra Solar Farm.
