Import tariff quota

On December 11, 2012, the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration Process (i.e COMIECO by its Spanish acronym) adopted Resolution 299-2012 allowing Guatemala to increase from 200,000 to 300,000 metric tonnes and from 25,000 to 80,000 metric tonnes the duty-free import quotas on yellow corn and sorghum respectively (HS Codes 1005.90.20 and 1007.90.00).

The applicable import tariff outside the quota was 15% for yellow corn and 20% for sorghum.

This Resolution only applied to Guatemala and it entered into force on January 1, 2013, for a twelve-month period.

Update
On August 12, 2013, the COMIECO adopted Resolution 317-2013 increasing by 225,000 metric tonnes the duty-free import quota set on yellow corn for 2013 (please, see related state acts).
