Import tariff quota

On December 2, 2011, the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration Process (i.e COMIECO by its Spanish acronym) adopted Resolution 278-2011 allowing Guatemala to establish again duty-free import quota on white corn (HS Code 1005.90.20). The new quota was set at 82,000 metric tonnes. Previously, no import tariff quota applied to this commodity.

The applicable import tariff outside the quota was 20%.

This Resolution only applied to Guatemala and entered into force on January 1, 2012, for a twelve-month period.

In addition, the COMIECO extended for another twelve months the 200,000 metric tones duty-free import quota set on yellow corn that was to terminate on December 31, 2011.
