Import tariff quota

On May 14, 2012, the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration Process (i.e COMIECO by its Spanish acronym) adopted Resolution 286-2012 allowing Guatemala to establish duty-free import quota on rice (HS Code 1006.10.90). The new quota was set at 16,000 metric tonnes. Previously, no import tariff quota applied to this commodity.

The applicable import tariff outside the quota was 23.7%.

This Resolution only applied to Guatemala and it was in force between May 14, 2012, and December 31, 2012.

Update
On December 11, 2012, the COMIECO adopted Resolution 299-2012 extending for another twelve months the import tariff quota set on rice. This intervention entered into force on January 1, 2013. In the same resolution new quotas for sorghum, yellow and white corn were established (please, see related state acts).
