Import tariff quota

On December 13, 2010, the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration Process (i.e COMIECO by its Spanish acronym) adopted Resolution 262-2010 allowing Guatemala to establish again duty-free import quota on yellow corn and rice (HS Code 1005.90.20 and 1006.10.90). The new quota was set at 200,000 and 9,500 metric tonnes. Previously, no import tariff quota applied to these commodities.

The applicable import tariff outside the quota was 15% and 23.7% respectively.

This Resolution only applied to Guatemala and entered into force on January 1, 2011, for a twelve-month period.

Update
On December 2, 2011, the COMIECO adopted Resolution 278-2011 extending the import tariff quota set on yellow corn and introducing a new tariff-rate quota on white corn (please, see related state acts).
