Import tariff quota

On December 4, 2008, the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration Process (i.e COMIECO by its Spanish acronym) adopted Resolution 239-2008 establishing an import quota on apple (HS Code 0808.10.00) and increasing the duty-free import quota set on yellow maize (HS Code 1005.90.20).

In the case of apples, the quota was set at 12,500 metric tonnes with a 12% import duty. Previously, no tariff-rate quota was set on this product.

As for yellow corn, the new duty-free import quota was increased from 88,000 to 230,000 metric tonnes.

In both cases, the applicable import tariff outside the quota was 15%.

This Resolution only applied to Guatemala and entered into force on January 1, 2009, for a twelve-month period.
