The Law took effect on 7 April 2016.

According to the new Law, an exception to the prior would only be allowed when the abroad transfer of data, is required by Law. This exception, however, according to the new Law would only be applicable sufficient data protection exists in the foreign country where the data is transferred or - if the local data controller provides a written security undertaking and Turkey’s Data Protection Board grants permission.
