Import tariff

On 21 March 2018, the Indian Ministry of Commerce & Industry through Notification No. 53/2015-2020 prohibited the imports of pepper if the Cost Insurance Freight (CIF) value of such imports is below INR 500 (~ USD 7.67) per kg.

Earlier on 6 December 2017, a minimum import price of INR 500 per kg. was imposed on pepper imports. However, this still allowed imports of pepper valued lower than the minimum import price by paying the duty difference. The current notification targets these under-valued imports and prohibits them.

On 19 September 2018, the CIF restriction on long pepper imports was removed (See related State Act).
