Import tariff quota

On January 17, 2018, the Government of Argentina adopted Decree 51/2018 reducing the import tariffs for a certain quota on hybrid and electric buses (NCM 8504.40.10 and 8702.40.90).

In terms of vehicles imported by private companies, the applicable import tariffs have been reduced to 2% in the case of NCM  8504.40.10 and only for hybrid buses and to 10% for NCM 8702.40.90 for electric engines. According to the WTO database, the applicable import duty outside the quota is 16.22% and 27.5% respectively.The quota was established at 350 units limited to 60 units per company.

With regard to buses imported by regional or local governments, the Decree contemplates the possibility of importing up to 50 duty-free electric/hybrid buses.

In addition, the Decree it sets a quota of 2,500 units of NCM 8504.40.10 as long as they are exclusively intended for the development of the infrastructure of charging stations.

The new legislation is in force for 36 months.
