Import ban

On 26 September 2017, the Indian Ministry of Commerce & Industry allowed two additional Public Sector Undertakings, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited (RCL) and National Fertilizer Limited (NFL), to import urea in the country. The permission is granted for a period of 3 months and was extended for NFL for another 2 months on 24 January 2018.

India is the second largest consumer of urea in the world and actively controls urea imports in favour of domestic production.
