On 20 October 2017, the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture announced signing contracts for investments in the Agricultural industry of a total value of HRK 339 million (USD 53 million). This consists of investments of HRK 86.5 million (USD 13.56 million) in the livestock and poultry sector for the purpose of building new and renovating existing farms; 36.5 million (USD 5.72 million) in the fruit and vegetable sector for the construction and maintenance of greenhouses; as well as HRK 122 million (USD 19.12 million) for SMEs and HRK 94 million (USD 14.74 million) for other entities to increase the value-added to their product.
The investments are granted under the 4.1.1. " Restructuring, Modernization and Increase in Competitiveness of Agricultural Holdings " and 4.2.1 " Increase in Value Added to Agricultural Products ". These programs fall under the Rural Development Program of Croatia and are intended to support the Croatian agricultural sector. The Program is financed by the European Union and the government of Croatia.
