ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 4 November 2014, the European Commission issued Regulation No. 1186/2014, decreasing the import duties on maize, sorghum and rye from EUR 10.44 (USD 13.10) per tonne to 4.49 (USD 5.64) per tonne. The products subject to import duties are classified under HS code subheadings 1002.10.00, 1002.90.00, 1005.10.90, 1005.90.00, 1007.10.90 and 1007.90.00. Reductions are available for specified ports of unloading. For maize, the duty-free quota remains in place; however, at the time the Implementing Regulation was issued, the quota for 2014 had already been taken up in full.
The duty was eventually suspended by Regulation No. 1206/2014 in November 2014 (see related state act).
The import duty is imposed following the implementation of a flexible mechanism for import tariffs on grain imports (wheat, rye, maize and sorghum) in August 2010, see related state act.
The duty-free quota regime for certain cereals originating in Ukraine, see related state act, and the abatement regime for maize and sorghum imports from the USA to Spain and Portugal remain unchanged.
