Export-related non-tariff measure, nes
On 11 January 2014, Indonesia released Regulation 1/2014 to further control exports of mineral ores. The new regulation amends Regulation 7/2012 (see related measures) and stipulates the processing and refining criterias. In sum, the export of processed mineral ores is getting more difficult due to the higher criteria of the new regulation.
This regulation is an application of the Mining Law (see related measures) and is designed to support the in-country processing and refinement of the minerals to increase value added in the sector.
For the holders of valid mining permits and contracts of work, semi-processed metals in the form of copper, iron, ilmenite, titanium, lead, zinc and manganese concentrates can still be exported until 12 January 2017. Nevertheless these export are subject to an additional tax (see related measure).
A complete list of processing and refining criteria can be found in the sources. Furthermore, a link to the old regulation is provided to allow for a detailed comparison.
