Labour market access

The government of Saudi Arabia on 01 July 2017 for the first time introduced a special monthly levy applicable to all individuals categorized as dependents of expats employed in the Saudi jurisdiction.  Dependents are individuals who temporarily reside in the Saudi jurisdiction due to having family and/or other next of kin ties with foreign individuals employed in the country.

For the fiscal year 2017, the monthly levy is planned to be at SR 100 (circa USD 27) per dependent. Furthermore, for the fiscal year 2017 to 2020 the sum of this monthly levy is expected to gradually increase every year via the following timeline schedule : 

  • 2018 - SR 200 (circa USD 53) per dependent 
  • 2019 - SR 300 (circa 80) per dependent
  • 2020 - SR 400 (circa 106) per dependent
