Import tariff quota

In a July 25, 2017 Federal Register that took immediate effect, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture increased the fiscal year (FY) 2017 raw cane sugar tariff-rate quota (TRQ) by 244,690 metric tons raw value (MTRV) to a total of 1,361,855 MTRV. That amounted to a 21.9% increase. The secretary also announced that the department is allowing all raw cane sugar entering the United States under the FY2017 TRQ to enter through October 31, 2017, a month later than the usual last entry date. These steps follow a determination that additional supplies of raw cane sugar are required in the U.S. market.
