ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 17 December 2013, the EC suspended the autonomous common customs tariff duties on certain agricultural and industrial products.
The suspension is aimed at avoiding potential shortages by increasing imports. The EC justifies the measure by stating that:'The Union production of the agricultural and industrial products is currently inadequate or non-existent, and thus the needs of user industries in the Union cannot be met.' (par. 1, Regulation 1387/2013, from 17 December 2013)
The list of all affected products can be found in Annex one of the Regulation (sources). The new suspension repeals Regulation 1344/2011 (related measures). Compared to the previous regulation, 118 new tariff lines on the 6-digit level were added.
Update on 18 December 2014:
On 18 December 2014, the European Commission announced in regulation 1341/2014 an amended list of suspended tariff duties, which applied starting from 1 January 2015. Therefore, this measure is no longer classified as implemented.
