Export ban

A number of news outlets have reported that the government will ban rubberwood exports from 1 July 2017. The ban follows shortages of the subject good affecting the domestic furniture industry. In this context, The Star quoted a Malaysian government official stating: "By retaining the raw material in our country, we are able to value-add to our furniture industry, produce more furniture and create more opportunities"
