ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 16 May 2017, the government of Kenya announced that as of 14 April 2017, for the first time, allowed duty-free importation of maize until 31 July 2017. To further alleviate the market distress from the drought, the government of Kenya also waived the import duties on milk powder and sugar (for an undisclosed period).
The described interventions are part of a package that also included a VAT rebate for domestic and foreign produce as well as input subsidies for processors of products from any origin.
