Import tariff quota

On May 11, 2017, the President of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, issued the Decree 331/2017 temporarily reducing the applicableMERCOSUR's common external import duty on 17 tariff lines for 6,000 units of hybrid and electric cars engines. The new import tariffs range between 5% and 0% for hybrid cars and 2% and 0% for electric cars and are to last for 36 months. The previously applicable duty on these tariff lines was set at 20%.

The purpose of this state act is to contribute to the promotion of environmentally friendly cars and reduce the production of Carbon Dioxide.

Following the GTA de minimis rule, only eligible trading partners with engine exports to Argentina exceeding USD 1 million are listed as affected. However, this list does not differentiate between exports of electric and hybrid engines and usual petrol engines.
