The Special Commodity Levy was increased by Rs. 20 on the import of soya bean oil, palm oil, sunflower seed oil/safflower/cottonseed oil, coconut/palm kernel/ babassu oil, and margarine. The effective levy rates, therefore, are increased from Rs. 130-150 to Rs. 150-170 per kg. on soyabean oil, palm oil, and sunflower seed oil/safflower/cotton-seed oil, from Rs. 150-165 per kg. to Rs. 170-195 on coconut/palm kernel/ babassu oil, and from Rs. 195-295 per kg. to Rs. 215-315 per kg. on margarine.
This change in levy had been announced for a period of 6 months but was later extended unchanged on 9 December 2016* before being reduced for all vegetable oils on 18 January 2017. The levy on margarine has been extended unchanged.
* all oil products with current levies were extended except two palm oil products of which the tariffs were increased (see related state act).
