Import quota

On June 11, 2012, the Foreign Trade Committee of the Ecuadorian Government issued Resolution 65 establishing a temporary quantitative import restriction on vehicle assembly kits. The new legislative act assigned a concrete quota to each consignee, in which quantities varied between 361 and 21,000 units per year per consignee. This resolution referred to all auto parts imported from any foreign country, including from those that held trade agreements with Ecuador.

This state act was to be abolished on December 31, 2014, and it affected the following companies: Suramericana de motores Motsur CIA. LTDA.; AYMESA S.A.; OMNIBUS BB Transportes S.A.; Manufacturas Armadurias y Repuestos Ecuatorianos S.A. Maresa; and UNOMOTORS CIA. LTDA.
