Labour market access

On 11 January 2017, the Ministry of Labour and Social Development of Saudi Arabia announced its decision to extend the period during which employers operating in the jurisdiction are obliged to advertise their open vacancies exclusively on the national virtual labour market platform Taqat Gateway. Therefore, indicating that the open vacancies in the Saudi labor market, need to remain exclusively on the Taqat Gateway for 45 (current) instead of 14 (previous) days - before the vacancies start becoming available in foreign HR platforms. The core reason behind the decision of the Ministry of Labour and Social Development is to increase the time which companies operating in Saudi Arabia advertise jobs to exclusively local Saudi portals (i.e. portals exclusively professionals dedicated to Saudi professionals)- before starting to access the foreign labour market. Therefore, indicating that now instead of 14, employers need to wait for 45 days before they can begin considering advertising their vacancies to foreign professionals and portals.

Taqat Gateway is the largest national virtual labour market platform in Saudi Arabia. One of Taqat's main aim is to boost the opportunities that employers have when it comes to attracting and recruiting local Saudi professionals.
