On December 15, 2011, Mexico launched a new official certificate focussed on logistic and supply chain security standards called NEEC (i.e. Nuevo Esquema de Empresas Certificadas). In order to qualify for this certificate, companies must meet eleven minimum security standards related to security in the supply chain; access to the company's premises and personnel controls; business partners; process security; customs management; safety of cargo vehicles, containers, trailers, and semi-trailers; security of personnel; security of information and documentation; security training; and incident management and investigation.
In exchange, certified companies can enjoy streamlined Mexican customs compliance checks and processing; fewer inspections, and priority processing, for remaining inspections for shipments originating in Mexico; favored compliance status for special trade partnership programs; and improved inventory cycle time.
