Public procurement preference margin

On 17 January 2015, the government of Egypt adopted Law 5/2015. This Law states that products of an Egyptian origin should be given a preferential treatment when obtaining government contracts i.e. contracts issued by public entities and entities in which the state of Egypt is a shareholder.

This preferential treatment is applicable only in situations when the price of the product of an Egyptian origin is not higher than 15% of the price of the imported (foreign) alternative product. Furthermore, according to this Law, a product of an Egyptian origin is defined as any product with at least 40% local components.

The executive regulations of the denoted Law were promulgated on 13 September 2015 via Ministerial Decree No. 656/2015.
