Import tariff

On 21 August 2015, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) granted a duty exemption on the importation of steel plates with an inner core of Portland cement classified under HS code 7308.90.90.

The decision by SARS was based on a recommendation by the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) who's in charge of evaluating tariff changes. The ITAC argued that ''...' there are no local manufacturers of the subject panels in the SACU region and that the duty has an unnecessary cost raising impact.' Hence, the duty exemption.
