Import ban

The Government of Algeria from 2 November 2009 has banned the importation of all vehicle spare parts that are not made by automobile manufacturers or their subsidiary companies. The minister of trade explained that this is to eliminate the importation of counterfeit spare parts, in particular from Asian countries.
Newspaper reports suggested that in 2008 just under 300 million US dollars of car parts were imported into Algeria. Of that total, US$5.7m were found by authorities to be counterfeit.
