Import tariff

On 26 August 2015, the National Board of Revenue, Bangladesh published SRO 275-AIN/2015/55-Customs setting a tariff value on raw and refined sugar at $320 and $400 per Metric Ton respectively. No tariff value existed before and the duty was paid on the prices quoted by the refineries. According to reports, this measure was initiated to protect local suppliers in times of falling global prices of sugar. (A regulatory duty was also set on sugar imports in this regard - see related measure)
