On 11 November 2014, the Indonesian sea transportation director at the Ministry of Transportation, Bobby Mamahit, was quoted in the media saying Indonesia would introduce a 5% import duty on used ships from abroad. Mamahit was cited saying the move was conducted "as part of efforts to protect our domestic shipyard industry".
No official regulation documenting the tariff introduction was found.
