No On 24 February 2009, vide Notification No. 20/2009 - Customs, the Government of India set the effective additional duty rate on various products at8%, as opposed to the earlier 14%.
Goods required for the maintenance, renovation or setting up of fertilizer plants, crude petroleum refineries, power generation plants, and machinery and parts for some of the above are covered by this exemption.
Cotton ginning and golf cars are also covered by the exemption.
The effective additional duty rate is the duty payable after exemptions. The above exemption from liability for additional duties in excess of the notified 8% is granted vide amendment to the General Duty Exemptions (GDE) contained in Notification No. 21/2002 - Customs (notification dated 1 March 2002).
