On 19 July 2011, the Government of India vide Notification No. 60 (RE-2010) / 2009-2014 allowed the annual export of 1,000,000 MT of non-Basmati rice, where export is made from privately held stocks. The regulation requires a minimum export price of USD 400 per MT.
Contracts for export of rice were required to be registered with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Government of India, and were to be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Export of non-basmati rice had previously been banned through notifications issued in October 2007, and February 2008.
