Export ban

 On 16 January 2009, the Government of India vide Notification No. 80 (RE-2008) / 2004-2009, allowed the export of 15,000 MTs of non-Basmati rice to Nigeria, Senegal and Ghana, and the export of 10,000 MTs of non-Basmati rice to Cameroon. 
The export was allowed only through State Trading Corporation till 30 April 2009, and STC was required to source the rice from surplus stock, without affecting the overall price situation.
