NoOn 21 November 2014, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council (Camex) issued Resolution no. 111 increasing the import tariff on LED bulbs (NCM 8543.70.99). The duty went from 12% to 18% and aims at improving the domestic LED manufacturing sector.
The good in question has been classified as an ex-tarifário which is a product with a tariff exception to the Mercosur Common External Tariff. The goal of this is to restructure Brazil's industrial park and infrastructure services by incentivizing investments in capital or IT and telecommunication goods. An exception from the Mercosur Common External Tariff can also be invoked in case of a shortage or no domestic production of the good in question.
