In 2009 state and local governments in Georgia provided an incentives package to National Cash Register for headquarters relocation and an automatic teller machine manufacturing plant. The subsidy package included a $87 million Mega Jobs Tax Credit, which allows the company to retain workers' state payroll taxes; $15 million in training and research assistance; and $8 million from a "deal-closing" fund called Regional Economic Business Assistance or REBA.
The GTA includes state guarantees and other financial incentives thatare likely to affect the restructuring and performance of firms facinginternational competition, whether from imports, in export markets, andfrom foreign subsidiaries.
