Financial grant

Volkswagen began construction in 2014 of a $900 million expansion in its sport utility vehicle production facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee, funded in part by grants from state and local governments. The company plans to have the work completed by July 1, 2015, and to start assembling the vehicles in late 2016. Volkswagen will spend $600 million of the $900 million total price. The city of Chattanooga and Hamilton County are putting in $26.25 million each in incentive money, and the state of Tennessee is adding about $177.8 million in grants and training assistance.
