Import tariff

On 20 July 2010, the European Commission issued Regulation 642/2010, introducing a flexible mechanism for import tariffs on grain imports (wheat, rye, maize and sorghum).
The Regulation allows for a weekly assessment of import tariffs on grain, based on world market prices. Furthermore, the Regulation defines several possible deductions, e.g. based on the port of unloading or the end product these cereals are processed into.
The measure came into effect on 10 August 2010.

Update:
In 2014, the European Commission issued Regulation 774/2014 (see related Measures), imposing fixed import tariffs for the products referred to in the above Regulation.
