On 13 June 2012, the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture announced provisions 43/2012 regulating the import of fresh bulbs.
According to the regulation, imports from countries which are free of fruit flies can be conducted from any port. Imports from countries which are not free of fruit flies will have to go through one of the following:
Also, the regulation stipulates that imported fresh bulbs must be 'free of roots, leaves, and particles of soil/compost' (art. 4).
The regulation came into force on 19 June 2012.
According to UN Comtrade, Indonesia did not have bilateral trade in fresh bulbs worth more than 1 million USD with any other country in the year prior to the implementation of this measure, i.e. in 2011. Hence, no affected trading partner has been listed.
